Dr Bolu Eso
Born in 1995, it was whilst growing up in Kent that Bolu’s dream of becoming a Veterinary Surgeon was ignited. At the age of 5, he stumbled across the enigmatic Steve Irwin on the TV and, amongst an abundance of nature documentaries and encyclopaedia’s, coupled with an enthusiasm for helping others, a steady realisation settled in. Bolu developed a list of goals that he needed to make this a reality, which he kept pinned to his wall throughout his childhood.
These goals included becoming Joint Deputy Head Boy at his Grammar school, a high achieving all round student who represented his school in football and rugby, completing his Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award, successfully climbing Mount Everest, working at his local Vets, animal sanctuaries and culminated in volunteering for various charity projects abroad working alongside the local communities and Village Vet hospitals.
All these achievements led to his dream coming true when he was accepted to study Veterinary Medicine at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Budapest. This married well with his lust for travelling as, for his 6 years of learning overseas, he not only immersed himself in the Hungarian culture and language but took advantage of being in Europe and travelled ‘til his heart’s content.
Upon graduating in 2019 with Honours and a Doctorate in “Veterinary Medicine and Intercalated Master of Science”, Bolu joined a Veterinary Practice back in rural Kent, with his first day seeing him thrown in the deep end with operations, house visits and busy consults…and he hasn’t looked back since.
It was at this time Bolu was approached by the Producers of a new show enquiring whether he was interested in becoming the on-screen Vet, caring for the health and well-being of the “participants” whilst relaying easily digestible educational content…the show was the brand new BBC1 Prime time series, Pooch Perfect with Sheridan Smith…Bolu’s love of adventure saw him accept the opportunity and hit the airwaves in January 2021 and begin his new path marrying together his love for animal welfare whilst educating and entertaining the nation through the medium of TV.
Most recently Bolu has fronted the hit Channel 4 series Furbabies and he continues to be the resident Vet on Love Your Weekend with Alan Titchmarsh (ITV1) as well as regular contributor to Rip Off Britain (BBC1) Blue Peter and BBC Radio. He is also the Brand Ambassador for the likes of Butternut Box, Figs Scrubs, Knorr, GoodWoof, Animal Friends Insurance and Felix.
Bolu is a keen advocate for social responsibility and enjoys working with charities and friends to make bigger impacts in smaller communities. He is passionate about mental health in his Profession and is always studying ways to make mental health a priority for those within his vocation. In 2025 Bolu won a “30 under 30” at the prestigious London Vet Show in recognition to his dedication to his industry.
